When should you go to Can Tho if you want to?

Our 4K overhead video of the market shows that about 45 boats and sampans come to it every day, even though it's not very big. Let me tell you, this market is packed with people until 6:45 a.m., when the locals start leaving for the day.

The Phong Dien Floating Market is an important river landmark that can't be replaced. Sail or boat is the best way to see this market. Whatever you do, there is a bridge close by that will give you a great view of this pretty market. 

To get to Phong Dien Market, you can take a boat, bicycle, or car. From Can Tho town, it takes about two hours by boat or 45 minutes by car or scooter. 

The sampan will take you to a few Phong Dien towns and small rivers after you look around the market. The sampan is the best way to get around while you're studying the floating market. 

 

3. The old house in Binh Thuy

The Duong family has owned the French-style house in Binh Thuy since 1870 and is now running it with the eighth generation of Duongs.

The house was a key part of the story of a young Marguerite Duras and her boyfriend Huynh Thuy Le in the 1992 movie "L'Amant" ("The Lover"), which was based on the same-named book by French author Marguerite Duras and was directed by Jean Jacques Annaud.

 

 

People in Binh Thuy, Can Tho, used to call the Duong family home the Binh Thuy ancient house or the Binh Thuy orchid garden old house because of how well it was kept.

The Duong family moved to the South at the end of the 18th century. In 1870, Mr. Duong Van Vi, who was the sixth generation living at the time, built the first house to honor his ancestors out of expensive wood and roof tiles.

4. The rice noodle factory in Can Tho

What's even cooler is that the people who live there still make all of their fresh noodles by hand, including mixing, making, drying, cutting, and packing. You can walk or ride a bike through Can Tho's cool towns, farmland, small rivers, local roads, and parks.

You have to get there before 10 a.m. if you want to see, touch, and eat noodles with your mouth. Most of the freshly baked cakes have been left out in the sun to dry so that they are ready for the next step.

Even when it rains, the plant should still be open, but not as many dyes and noodles should be used as in the summer. I believe that the best time to see this area is when it floods.

The best way to see the area is by boat, so make sure your biking tour of the area includes stops at the Cai Rang Floating Market and a rice noodle plant.

 

 

The best way to get to the Can Tho rice noodle factory is by bike or scooter, since it is in the Can Tho town and near a lot of cool and pretty little paths and canals. Lotion that keeps bugs away is a must if you want to continue your bike tour of Can Tho to the hotel.

You can walk or ride a bike through Can Tho's cool towns, farmland, small rivers, local roads, and parks.

Fruit must only be available during certain times of the year. The fruit garden looks its best when it's raining. When it rains, the fruit and flowers grow. The park looks its most beautiful first thing in the morning.

 

 

You can easily get to the Can Tho fruit garden by car, bike, scooter, or boat. It depends on your preferences and available time, since the yard is in the middle of nowhere and can be easily reached by road.

We locals like to ride bikes or sampans to get around. It is highly suggested that you ride a bike or scooter along the Mekong Canal and the fruit field.

 

7. Can Tho Sampan Ride and Small Canals

 

People who live near the Mekong River often use sampans for many things, such as getting around, moving goods, having markets, and even weddings.

The Can Tho sampan has a motor, oars, and a roof that can be pulled back to protect it from the weather. Sampans are more important than usual in Can Tho, both for storage and movement.

 

 

The smaller Can Tho sampan has room for four people, and the bigger one can fit eight.

A sampan that can carry two or three people for 12 kilometers costs about 250,000vnd, which is about 11 USD. There is no extra charge to get to the Cai Rang Floating Market from Ninh Kieu Dock.

Prices here are about twice as high as those in Phong Dien and Cai Rang. Adding things to a road like small streams and fruit fields will make it cost more.

8. The Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery

On July 16, 2013, work began on the 4-hectare (4-acre) monastery. It was finished ten months later. On May 17, 2014, the Buddhist Board of Can Tho held a somber ritual to officially open the Truc Lam Phuong Nam Zen Monastery.

 

 

The building is made of ironwood beams, brick walls, floors, and paths, and all of them are covered in tiles. The campus has about 20 other buildings that help keep the peace.

These include an ancestral home, a large hall that can hold up to 500 Buddhists and monks for teaching and studying, a 9-story stupa, a drum tower, a bronze bell tower, living quarters for monks and visitors, libraries, medicine rooms, water houses, and more.

Not far from the middle of town—about 500 meters away. In Ninh Kieu Park, there are many beautiful decorative trees. The 7.2-meter-tall bronze figure of Uncle Ho stands out among the green grass that grows and winds around white cement panels.

For people in the neighborhood, it's a center for both leisure and recreation. In the area, you can find hotels, small shops, grocery stores, and even ticket offices.

There are also night markets, historic markets, floating restaurants, many restaurants and sky bars, and more. Across the Can Tho bridge and the Can Tho River, there's nothing better than seeing the bright fishing and trade boats fixed at odd angles on the lake at night.

Ong Pagoda is not in the top 10 most famous pagodas but it is still a cultural historical treasure, the Ong Pagoda was named such by the Ministry of Culture and Information (MOCI) on June 21, 1993.

People in the area who honor Quan Am, the Goddess of Mercy, and Than Tai, the God of Fortune, come to this small pagoda often.

A group of Hoa people built the 532 square meter Ong pagoda in honor of the god Quan Cong between 1894 and 1896 in the two main towns of Quang Chau and Trieu Khanh in the Chinese province of Quang Dong.

 

 

Almost all of the parts, like stone pillars, support, purling, and other things, came from Wangdoung. This is why the architecture looks a lot like Chinese architecture.

The building looks like a historical Han "Quoc" character because the closed apartment ranges are set up in a square shape around an open well.

People make gifts to Quan Cong at the main altar, to Tho Dia (God of the Soil) and Thien Hau Thanh Mau on the right, and to Dong Vinh, the first doctoral candidate, and Tai Bach Tinh Quan on the left.

The sanctum is the highest place in the pagoda. In front of the shrine, three incense tables from 1974 have bronze urns from 1896 that are etched with the characters "Hiep thien cung" in relief in Han script.

The three tables in the back row are made of wood and glass and have gold-plated relievo. The last few rows are supposed to welcome guests and honor the Goddess of Mercy...

 

14. The Stork Garden at Bang Lang

You can get there 45 kilometers from Can Tho City on the road to Long Xuyen City in An Giang Province. The village is called Thoi Thuan.

The best times to listen to "folk stork music" are late at night or early in the morning. It's best to go to the Mekong Delta during the rainy season, when there are more unusual birds and tasty foods to see.

A person could get into the yard by boat or on foot before National Road 91 was built. You can walk or take a boat for about 30 minutes.

The road is now totally fine for cars. Google Maps can help you get there. For VND 20,000, visitors can go to the lookout and learn more about the birds that live there and the beautiful scenery below. Be careful, though, because the steps outside might be very slippery.

 

 

More than ten kinds of storks and other birds live in this area. In the center of the Mekong River, it's an important place to stay safe.

The stork garden used to be a rice field, but now it has coconut trees, mango trees, and Bang Lang trees for shade. He had about 200 storks that came to his farm from close in 1983.

The owner loves animals and farming, so he didn't harm or set traps for them. He wanted to keep them safe and help them in any way he could, even if it meant planting a forest of bamboo to keep them warm.

The Muoi Cuong cocoa Garden has about 2,000 cocoa trees spread out over 1.2 acres. Its foundations were made in the 1960s, and they are still being fixed up today.

1. Banh Cong Cake (Cong Cake)

The name "Banh Cong" comes from the "Cong" that was used to make it. The "Cong" is a metal milk bottle with a long handle. The "Cong" is still a common way to pay for things in the Mekong Delta.

One common size of "Cong" is 5 cm in circle, 5 cm in height, and one span in handle length. This is the size that is used to make Bánh Cong.

Instead of the cylinder shape used to measure it, the "Cong" used to fry Banh Cong has a bottom that is slightly smaller than the cap. This lets the Banh Cong float to the top when it's done.

Using a mix of rice flour and wheat flour gives Banh Cong its unique feel. You can use rice flour to make banh cong, or you can soak the rice and grind it into flour.

Most of the time, people like the taste of newly ground rice flour better than store-bought rice flour. If you're not careful when you shop for rice flour, you might find old, moldy flour that makes cakes taste funky and gross.

Banh Cong is usually topped with lime, chopped chile, and sweet and sour fish sauce. Shredded cucumber, carrot, and radish are added to the fish sauce. Herb mint, greens, basil, fish mint, and other plants all have strong smells.

 

2. Fine Vermicelli Made of Rice (Can Tho Ut Dzach)

Found Things That Are Rare in Can Tho

1. Hidden VC Base in Can Tho's Huge Ficus Tree

At the Gian Gua relic site, you can see giant ficus trees that are more than a hundred years old. These trees are a sign of the swamp environment of the Mekong Delta.

The land at this site used to be very big, but bomb damage and natural forces have shrunk it to about 2,700 m2. When people go to the Gian Gua relic, they are often shocked to see a strong primitive rig.

The many trees and branches are twisted together like a big net, making it hard to tell which is the root and which is the branch. Still, there are branches that bear the battle wounds, where bombs and bullets tore and fixed them up.

 

 

In spite of this, those ficus trees still grow and bloom vigorously, casting shade. This big ficus tree is probably the only one of its kind in Vietnam. At this point, it has taken over an area of about 4000 m2.

This place was the center of rebel action during both the times of fighting against French colonists and the American empire.

During the anti-American era, this place was the site of several meetings to carry out the decisions and instructions of the District and Provincial Party Committees.

From 1961 to 1965, it was used as a secret location to hold training classes for special troops in the middle of Can Tho. Gian Gua Can Tho is also home to weapons and ammo, which help the troops and the people fight back against US military tactics.

2. Away from the Crowds and the Can Tho Rice Fields

 

A lot of wet rice is grown in the Mekong Delta, where farmers and fishers work to make a living from the land and the sea. As the Mekong Delta grows, it forms a triangle shape.

The layers in this shape are rich alluvium, which makes them good for growing rice in the rain. A walk through green or golden rice fields and learning about Vietnam's "white gold" are both great things to do in Can Tho.

3. The Can Tho Brick Kiln

The Mekong Delta is known for its rice fields, small rivers, and boat markets. In Vinh Long, Ben Tre, and Can Tho, there are also lovely traditional brick workshops.

Today, tourists can visit some mud brick buildings along the rivers that flow into the Mekong. They can do this while on a boat or a bike tour.

The fastest and least expensive way to get there is on two wheels, a bike, or a sampan.

1. Can Tho History

The old city, Can Tho, is shown on a drawn map by A. Pouyanne is a land of rivers and canals where about 2.5 million people live. People in the area value this natural treasure.

A scholar named Huynh Minh once copied this passage from a book written during the reign of King Gia Long Minh Mang: "Can Tho River is in the east of Phong Phu district, 3 miles away, on the west bank of the Hau River, 4 Truong wide, and 2 and a half deep."

The former leader of the Zhenjiang religion now lives on the western bank of the river. 13. km from where the Ba Lang rivers meet is Da Danh, Da Rang, where the river starts. In the south of Dai Giang, the river starts to move up.

It then runs down to meet the Bon River. For 12 miles, it flows east to meet the Binh Thuy River. For 45 miles, it runs east to the "Be gate" border port of Kien Giang.

 

 

Before the wives and kids of soldiers from Ha Tien and Rach Gia went to Tran Giang, the people who lived there were split between the two forces. There is also a group of guests from the East who come to stay on Tran Giang land.

A place called Can Tho, which is now called Tran Giang, has been on the Vietnamese map since 1739, when its history was written down. There was no such place here before the Mekong Delta formed.

After taking over the whole southern part of the province, the French chose on February 23, 1876, to take over the order of Phong Phu (Tran Giang) and parts of An Xuyen and Tan Thanh districts in An Giang province during the reign of King Minh. Can Tho County was made by Minh Mang.

 

 

Under French colonial rule, from 1862 to 1876, Can Tho, which used to be the Phong Phu district of Vinh Long province, was the capital of the western part of Vietnam.

The province of Can Tho was changed from "Can Tho" to "Phong Dinh" by Ngo Dinh Diem's (Ngo Dinh Diem) government after the American empire took over the French territory.

Can Tho was taken over by the North Vietnamese forces the day after Saigon on May 1, 1975. It is now a town in the province of Hau Giang.

Hau Giang province used to be split into two parts, Can Tho and Soc Trang (Sóc Trăng). Can Tho was recently made into a town, which is the same level as a county in Vietnam.

It began in 2004 when what is now Can Tho City and Hau Giang Province were formed from what used to be Can Tho Province.

 

2. The Can Tho Museum

As an added bonus, this big, well-kept museum brings local history to life with life-size models of buildings and manikins (5000 items and historical relics).

 

 

There are 2700 square feet of floor room in this huge building that was built in 1976. A life-size model of a house and manikins are used to bring the 5,000 artifacts and historical treasures to life.

The museum shows how the Kinh (Vietnamese), Hoa (Chinese Vietnamese), and Khmer cultures helped build the country, protect it, and make it what it is today, which is an incredibly beautiful place called Tay Do.
