Traveling from Hanoi to Sapa by bus is the fastest option. The journey takes about 6 hours on the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway. You can book bus tickets online from a number of bus companies connecting Hanoi to Sapa such as Sapa Express, Group Tour, and Sao Viet.

Hanoi to Sapa Train + Bus
The night train from Hanoi to Sapa is one of the most convenient and affordable options to travel from Hanoi to Sapa. Vietnam Railways operates daily trains from Hanoi to Lao Cai station. Ticket prices start at $30.
The journey takes about 8 hours. If you take the night train, you will arrive around 5:30 or 6:00 a.m. depending on your departure time.
Upon arrival, you can travel by bus or private car from Lao Cai to Sapa. From Lao Cai to Sa Pa is about 30km, if traveling by bus it takes about 1 hour.

Private train to Sapa
Taking a private train or cruise ship from Hanoi to Sapa is one of the recommended experiences. Each car is beautifully decorated, and the service is of better quality.
Private train companies include Violette Trains, Fanxipan Express, King Express, Orient Express, Sapaly Express, Chapa Express and New Livitrans Express, of which Victoria Express is the most luxurious.

Hanoi to Sapa by bicycle
If you plan to travel by bicycle, you can choose the following routes:
- Route 1 (Direction of Lao Cai): Hanoi – Vinh Phuc – Viet Tri – Phong Chau – Doan Hung – Yen Bai – Lao Cai – Sapa. Total distance is about 360km.
- Route 2 (Lai Chau direction): Hanoi - Hoa Lac - Son Tay - Thanh Son - Follow Highway 32 - Sapa. The total distance is about 420 km.

Because motorbikes cannot cross the national highway, you will have to choose a longer detour via National Highway 7 or National Highway 32.
