The new visa policy was introduced on August 15th, this new policy gives Vietnam more opportunities to boost its tourism rate and introduce Vietnam to all over the world.

In 2007, Vietnam implemented an online registration which is called an electronic visa that would allow various countries around the world to apply online without going to the embassy or the consulate.

However, that system is flawed because it only has 30 days and a single entry. So for many tourists who want to visit Vietnam and then come back, roundtrip flights were not available and especially for business people who were coming to Vietnam and doing business for more than 30 days. Therefore that system hindered a lot of tourism and the business to come back.

In order to attract more tourists to Vietnam and also to stimulate the economy, Vietnam proposed a new visa policy and also looked at the work of Thailand and Singapore and their policies to attract more tourists back to the country after the pandemic.

More particularly, on the policy of e-visa, the government proposed to grant a-visa to all country's citizens and increase the duration from 30 days to 90 days valid for one time or multiple entries. The e-visa costs 25 USD and requires three full working days to process.
