Hue is the old capital of Vietnam, the place with valuable cultural and historical heritage.Hue (pronounced hwe by the Vietnamese) is famous for its historical attractions - royal palaces and temples.
1.Hue sightseeing :The popular among travellers, include boat trips along the picturesque Perfume river, and traditional cultural performances, unique to Hue and its royal heritage,visit many historical places in Hue, the old capital of Vietnam - The Citadel, Royal palaces, tombs of many Vietnamese kings.
- Explore the picturesque Perfume river on a boat cruise from Hue.
- Take a day trip to DMZ (Demiliterazed Zone), the former border between the North of the South of Vietnam, and a site of major battles of Vietnam war.
- Watch a traditional Vietnamese performance. Many of the music/dance styles you can see in Hue were developed in the 19th century for the exclusive entertainment of the royal family.
- Try local cuisine, famous for the distinct taste among various culinary traditions across Vietnam
2.Best time to travel to Hue is February to April.
The weather between February and April is cooler than in summer, and Hue gets the least amount of rain during these months. Average day temperatures in Hue are +22-24°C (73°F) in March, +27-29°C (82°F) in April.January and May are also good for visiting Hue, but there is more rain during these months.
It is possible, but not recommended, to travel to Hue in June and July, since summer months are the hottest time of the year, with average temperatures about +30-32°C (87°F).
It is not recommended to visit Hue and Central Vietnam during rainy season, between September and December.
3. Getting To Hue Vietnam
- By Plane
Hue is connected with Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi by daily flights. Ho Chi Minh City (the flight time is 1h. 20 min.).Hanoi (the flight time is 1h.10min.)
Phu Bai airport is about 30 min. drive from the city. The best way to get to the city from the airport is taxi, the costs are approximately 10 USD.
The other option, a lot less convenient and more time consuming, to get to Hue by plane, is arriving in the Da Nang airport. The airport has daily connections to Buon Ma Thuot, Nha Trang and Pleiku, in addition to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as serves some international flights to China, Cambodia and Singapore.
Da Nang airport is located about 100 km./60 miles southeast of Hue. There are no regularly scheduled transportation options to get to Hue from Da Nang airport, but it is possible to get a taxi drive to Hue directly, or alternatively you can catch a bus or train from nearby Da Nang city to Hue.
- By Train
Hue is connected by North-South railway with other travel destinations in Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh City (14-15 hours, depending on the class of train), Nha Trang (12-14 hours), Da Nang (3-4 hours), Hanoi (12-15 hours).Hue Railway Station is located at 2 Bui Thi Xuan St., a short distance south of the city centre.
- By Bus
Shuttle Bus to Hue from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and other travel destinations - Da Nang, Hoi An and Nha Trang.
Regular intercity buses arrive in Hue at the bus station, located in the city center.
Boat trip along the Perfume River
Boat ride along one of the most pictureous rivers in Vietnam, Perfume River, is a popular travel activity in Hue. See beautiful natural landscapes, historical Thien Mu Pagoda, and enjoy the traditional Vietnamese performance on a dinner cruise along the river.
4.Traditional performance
See traditional music perfomance and traditional dance, unique to Hue. These artistic styles originate from the style of performances once available only for the royal family.Unique local cuisine in Hue.
Hue is famous in Vietnam for its distinct culinary traditions. Try many popular local dishes, the most famous is bun bo hue, or spicy noodles, cooked in amazing variety of styles and types of local ingredients.
